Our Story
Our Founders fell in love with whole leaf tea while enjoying a pot of Oolong Tea and within a few years opened a modern-day tea house to shared their love of whole leaf tea with others. “Tea & Company” was established in 1996, in San Francisco, California and was the first modern tea house in San Francisco and maybe a little ahead of its time. In 2000, the business was set to change and expand but after the dot-com crash the business leaned into wholesale programs which were in demand. The “Tea & Company” tea house concept was abandoned with the change in pace of retail business after the crash. Having established wholesale customers, sharing the enjoyment of tea with a broader audience became the path forward for Mighty Leaf Tea. Clients visiting upscale restaurants and hotels were introduced to Mighty Leaf’s signature whole leaf tea in proprietary hand-stitched pouches.
Over the next 10 years, they built an impressive clientele list including Michelin starred restaurants, five-star hotels and luxury cruise lines, most of whom Mighty Leaf continues to serve today. In 2014, Mighty Leaf was acquired by Peet’s Coffee, who like Mighty Leaf, began as a small shop in the Bay Area and shared a commitment to quality. Peet’s embraced the vision of creating incredible hand-roasted coffee with the finest coffees grown around the world, and Mighty Leaf fit into that vision with the best whole leaf tea incorporated into our tea blends.
Today, our tea team is led by Tea Master, Eliot Jordan, who has over 30 years of experience sourcing the highest quality, whole leaf teas from around the world. Eliot holds the vision and passion to create artisan whole leaf tea blends by sourcing the finest ingredients available. Helping you deliver a unique tea experience, delighting your customers and clientele, we offer two assortments of tea: Mighty Leaf Tea and Tea & Company. Mighty Leaf Tea, signature assortment, are available in a variety of formats to create a customized Mighty Leaf Tea program, with a robust flavor assortment to suit a range of palates and preferences. Tea & Company, our premium line of tea features an inventive assortment of organic offerings in a sachet format for the tea connoisseur, perfect for Michelin-starred restaurants, 5-star hotels, spas, and resorts. Sourced from renowned tea regions around the world, each blend features select whole leaf teas procured exclusively for Tea & Company.
